Developing countries to topple energy trends
It is expected that over 70% of the increase in world primary energy demand between 2004-2030 will come from developing countries.
By 2030:
- China will have become the world’s largest energy importer;
- Countries in South and East Asia will not be able to increase their net energy import balance by 2030 in view of increasing energy demand and will need to become either self-sufficient or face an energy crisis;
- Latin America will reduce its energy exports and will focus on the intercontinental energy market (self-sufficiency with fossil and renewable energies);
- Africa could become a major and important exporter of energy (mainly gas, coal, uranium, renewables);
- Transition Economies will catch up on the Middle East as major exporters of fossil fuels.
