Sea Taxi Project

Budget: US$447,080;
Status: Two hydrogen fuelled marine engines have been ordered by ICHET;
Description: Marine transport utilising long stretches of coastline and waterways is a feature of Istanbul life. Sea taxis are a proven viable alternative solution to the problems of Istanbul traffic since they carry passengers, relieving significant traffic congestion on the city's road-based transport system. Being relatively small in size and power, they provide an ideal demonstration platform for the viability of the hydrogen energy approach. This project is partially funded by ICHET. In the project two internal combustion engines running on hydrogen and having a power of 240 HP will be integrated into the sea taxi. In the next stages of the project, PV panels will be fitted on top of the sea taxi through which electricity will be produced.
