Applications of hydrogen as an energy carrier

Hydrogen as an energy carrier has many possible applications. It can be used instead of fossil fuels for virtually all purposes: as fuel for surface and air transportation; as fuel for heat production; and even as a fuel for production of electricity directly (in fuel cells) or indirectly (through gas and steam turbine driven generators):
  • Hydrogen powered automobiles (internal combustion or fuel cells);
  • Marine applications of hydrogen (water as the only by-product makes it stealth and clean);
  • Hydrogen powered airplanes (actually the only solution, when fossil fuels are completely depleted);
  • Hydrogen application in buildings or households (heating, cooking, etc.);
  • Hydrogen applications in electricity generation (portable, stationary, main or backup).
